Arduino.cc에 있는 Forum에서 많은 정보들을 얻고 있습니다. 세계엔 정말 다양한 분들이 직업으로, 취미로 Arduino를 이용하고 있는거 같습니다.

저는 그동안 Googling을 통해 포럼에 들어왔는데, 오늘은 논문을 쓰는 과정에서 Arduino.cc 사이트의 구성을 살펴보기 위해, 대문으로부터 Forum으로 들어가게 되었습니다.

흥미로웠던 부분은, 영어로만 포럼이 운영될 줄 알았는데 다국어 포럼이 별도로 개설되어 있더라고요.

저는 당연히 Korean이 개설되어 있을 줄 알았는데, Korean 섹션이 없었습니다! 이럴 때마다 저는 정말 마음이 아프더라고요. 우리 말로 된 생태계가 제대로 구성이 되는 것이 기술이나 학문적 발전에 매우 중요하다고 생각하는데, Korean은 어딜가도 이러한 기여가 미진한거 같습니다.

예전에 Lubuntu가 한국어로 번역이 안 되어 있는 점이 마음 아파서 며칠 동안 Lubuntu를 번역해서 Github에 커밋을 한적이 있는데요. 많은 사용자들이 잘 사용하고 있는 모습을 보며 뿌듯했던 기억이 있습니다.

이번에도 가만히 있을 수 없겠다 싶어서, Arduino Support Team에 메일을 보내보았습니다.

I want to be a member of the Korean section in the Arduino Forum, but there is no Korean section now.

How can I open the Korean section in Arudino Forum?

There are many Arduino users in Korea, but we don’t have appropriate virtual areas to share and discuss Arduino on the Internet.

If it is possible to open the Korean section, I will commit there as a member.

옛날엔 영어 실력이 모자라 제가 쓴 영어 글을 인터넷에 공개적으로 포스팅하길 꺼렸습니다. 주변에 영어 잘 하는 친구들이 참 많았고, 제가 사용하는 영어에 대해 한국인 친구들에게 지적을 많이 받았습니다. 그래서 자신감이 없었나 봐요.

그런데 원어민 친구들을 만나면서, 꾸준히 듣는 이야기가 “넌 영어 충분히 잘해”입니다. 그 친구들은 저와 대화를 하길 원하는 것이고, 제가 하는 말의 내용을 충분히 이해할 수 있으니 저는 영어를 충분히 잘하는거라고 합니다. (미국에도 너보다 영어 못하는 사람들 많고 다 열심히 잘 살고 있다라는 말까지 덧붙여 주더군요)

어디까지가 사실이고, 어디까지가 응원인지 모르겠지만 제가 영어를 사용하는데 많은 자신감을 불어넣어준 것 만큼은 사실입니다.

보신 분들이 있는지 모르겠는데, 반기문 총장의 영어 실력에 대해 한국인들이 비판하는 영상입니다. 물론 저의 영어실력은 외국인이 듣기에 많은 부족함이 있겠지만, 이 영상을 보면서 한국인의 지적으로 자신감을 잃는 것은 바보같은 짓이라는 생각을 합니다.

  1. 아쉽게도 Korean 섹션 개설에 실패했습니다.
    일단 Korean 섹션을 개설하려면 해당 섹션을 맡을 moderator가 필요한데, 자신들 팀에는 한국어를 구사할 줄 아는 사람이 없다고 합니다.
    그래서 제가 moderator 역할을 수행하겠다고 했지만, 다른 섹션에 활동한 이력이 어느정도 있어야 Korean 섹션의 moderator를 맡을 수 있다고 하네요.
    어느정도 활동 실적을 만든 후에 다시 재시도를 해봐야 겠어요.
